Who We Are
At Storied Roots, we make handcrafted, artisan tamales using bold flavors, time-honored techniques, and ethically sourced ingredients. All of our naturally gluten free tamales are made from scratch in a licensed local Pittsburgh kitchen, then frozen for easy reheating at home.
We offer convenient weekly pick up in Mt. Lebanon in the parking lot at the Sunnyhill UU church. And, we offer several unique flavors—from classics to creative twists—including vegetarian and vegan options.
Our Story
Storied Roots began in my kitchen but took shape years ago in my childhood home in Knoxville, Tennessee. I grew up watching my mom and grandma make tamales by hand — not for a restaurant or business, but because they loved sharing food with people they loved. It was an act of tradition, joy, and community.
Now, decades later, I’m drawing on those memories to bring a fresh, local twist to the tamales of my past. I live in Mt. Lebanon, PA with my wife and two children, and I’ve spent years immersed in food, sustainability, and storytelling. I have several years of experience working in fine dining as a cook, a Master’s degree in English Literature, a certificate in sustainable farming, and a passion for good food that’s as personal as it is practical. Every tamale I make connects those parts of me: a love of flavor, a respect for the land, and the belief that food is one of the most powerful ways we tell stories — about who we are, where we come from, and what matters to us.
At Storied Roots, our tamales are made from thoughtfully and ethically sourced ingredients — local when possible, always with care — and frozen for convenience without sacrificing quality. We cook our tamales in a shared commercial kitchen in Pittsburgh and offer convenient weekly pickups for South Hills families who want food that’s handmade, rooted in tradition, and full of heart.
